Welcoming the Groom Based on interest and customs, different styles of welcoming the Groom are arranged. The bride’s parents welcome the Groom with a decorative coconut and garland. Also, the groom’s parents and other relatives are welcomed with garlands. Arathi is performed by the ladies and a Dhrishti coconut is broken to remove obstacles. They are then escorted to the Beegara Mane – a well done up room for the groom’s family.
Vara Puja The Vara Puja is performed in honor of the to-be-married couple. The bride’s parents welcome the groom and his family. The groom's feet are washed by the bride's father to welcome the groom as Mahavishnu Swarupaya Varahaya (Maha Vishnu himself) and the bride as Lakshmi. Then the groom’s parents shower blessings on the bride and give her a saree and other gifts. Then both the bride’s and groom’s family sit facing each other, solemnize the final betrothal ceremony, with the priest chanting the relevant hymns, in which the Gotras & names of the bride, the groom, as well as the names of their three generations of ancestors, are recited in presence of friends, relatives and invitees. Then a formal introduction of family members of each side is done with sprinkling of Scented Water and Gulal and given Khobri Sakre (Grated coconut with sugar).
